就把乡情，送向远方以远

真的回抵家乡，由于说错了一句话
乡亲们就把我当成了外村落夫

I Have Been Practicing Hometown Dialect

A country tree in the city, it has only bare ribs left,
with all its leafy twigs clipped. New shoots grow
on old wounds, but they swish and rustle in Mandarin.
I have been practicing hometown dialect.
Going to a woodland or a field of crops often,
I hope to recover the lilt and rhythm
in Mother’s voice that echoed in the mountains
when she called for us at sunset. I am an absent son
dreaming of the smoke of home cooking, dreaming of
returning to my elderly father, to listen to the sound of Nature,
to be free like the handsome cornstalks; the wind
has carried my longings so far, far away.
I have been practicing my hometown dialect.
I am afraid that folks would take me as an outsider
if I should say something wrong when I do go home again.
