The Rain
by Zhang Jinbu
One summer, I tumbled down, brushing against the fluffy body of dark night.Because of the great speed of my fall,I didn’t grasp the whole picture of the world, but saw something in it—a giant black cat, sleeping soundly in the domain of time. Later on,the black cat stirred and turned, and revealed its white belly:in that daylight, I tumbled downbrushing against the broiling body of summer.Because of the uncontrollable speed of my fall,I only saw the world through my wet eyes.I recognized the black cat— intrinsic to eternity, and saw the white belly of the black cat: intrinsic to impermanence.Just then I woke up from time’s domain — occasionallyI write poetry in places I’ve never been, a porous poem.I am a craftsman who makes instruments for the wind.
